Happy Holidays from the Booses

Our holiday card this year…

Three years in a row…

Hope everyone has a cheery holiday this month, whatever you’re celebrating. We got into it a bit early around here. Photos here.

The Gift of Words

A lot of you have asked about giving THE RULES OF INHERITANCE as holiday gifts, despite its February 2 publication date. If this is something you’d like to do then I’m happy to provide you with fancy book postcards and personalized bookplates (stickers). Here’s how it works: You can pre-order the book now from any of the links below. Then send me an email (clairebidwellsmith@gmail.com) with your address, as well as the number of postcards you need and the names of the recipients. I’ll be happy to send the postcards and signed bookplates to you by December 19th.

Holiday Retreat

Thanks to everyone who freely let me vent about parenting this week, and especially to all of those who had such encouraging and sympathetic comments to share. It’s always nice to feel part of a community of people who are raising children and trying to figure it all out. I also appreciate having a place like this where I can be really honest about how I’m feeling and what I’m thinking.

Today is Tuesday and Vera is at school and Greg is at a coffee shop writing (Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were just sitting one table over from him!) and I’m at home trying to buckle down and get some work done, but having trouble concentrating. I have that holiday break mentality already and am having trouble finding the motivation to finish up the last of my 2011 projects that are due. I’d rather be wrapping gifts and lounging around the house in my socks and hoodie while I have these precious few hours to myself. Which is exactly what I’m doing, for the record.

All in all, there’s not much to report. My book will be out in only 6 weeks and this is truly the calm before the storm. Once February 2nd hits things are going to be a little intense for a while, so I’m trying to just relax and enjoy this last time of quiet and relative anonymity. Fun news continues to trickle in — a starred (!) review in Booklist yesterday, news from my Australian publicist that Vogue Australia is going to publish a review, and some other exciting things that I can’t mention yet.

Things may be a little quiet around here for the next couple of weeks as I let myself relax and enjoy the last days of 2011 with my little family. Something that seems easier to do without all the regular pressures that have thankfully been put on hold by this time of year. Wishing everyone a relaxing holiday filled with gratitude and wonder.
