I’m in Chicago

I’m in Chicago right now, typing this out in my friend’s downtown loft apartment while Bug sleeps behind the next wall. Greg just landed in Los Angeles and is headed home to Topanga, to a week of solitude while Vera and I have a girl party in Chicago and then attend my friend Ashley’s wedding in Michigan next weekend.

I’m staying here all week in my friend’s condo while she is off traveling in Europe. It’s a beautiful single girl’s kind of pad. Nice furniture, nice lamps, a decorative bird cage and a clean bathroom. Bug and I ordered pizza and watched Nickelodeon this evening and everything about those two things felt incongruent to the space we’re in, but it was fun nonetheless.

I’ll tell you, Veronica is really becoming a champ at this transient lifestyle we’re living. Not only have we been housesitting in CA for the last three months, but she spent last weekend at her aunt’s house while Greg and I went to a wedding in WI and now we’re here in this place, and this coming weekend she’ll hit the lakehouse with her grandparents while I go to Michigan. Then we’ll go home to Topanga for a week before we move to our new digs in Santa Monica.

I can’t even tell you how good it’s going to feel to see OUR stuff again soon.

Anyway, right now I’m still coming down from one of the most fun weekends I’ve had in a long time (I stayed out until 2:30AM last night! Gasp!). Greg’s best friend Tarek married Kate in Madison and it was such a phenomenal event. Just completely filled with old friends new friends and late nights and dancing and drinking and sleeping in and getting to see two people whom I adore make things official. (As usual, I took a million photos. You can see the whole album here.)

Not to mention that Greg and I got a rare two days away from Vera, and for 48 hours got to remember who we are when we’re just us.

Um, nicest blog comment EVER. I think my dad is actually my secret to great legs — he’s the reason I have such long ones!

Agree with previous comment that you look fabulous in that dress! So nice that you had some quality time to reconnect with Greg. We started traveling very early on with our kids and at ages 7 and 10 they all are experienced and adventurous travelers. Now they help us pick vacation spots and plan our trips.

Thanks, Wendy! And yes, I really think all this transience is really quite valuable for V in the long run. She’s going to be very adventurous and adaptable. Like her mom.
